2018 Plant Sunday - Report

Open for business

Despondency as the rain poured down on Saturday gave way to great relief as Sunday dawned overcast and damp but no rain! The early birds tent team set up in record time and the Sales Team were able to get organised and set up with time to spare. Priority buyers had the pick of the selection, before a queue formed for an opening rush, as courgettes flew off the shelves! My initial fears that there might not be enough plants proved unfounded and there was a good range and quality on offer – brassicas, beans, cucumbers, squash, tomatoes, flowers and fruit, with some quality F1 varieties for the discerning buyer. The sale of a battery operated lawnmower in excellent condition boosted overall takings.

We made a total of £263.30, slightly up on last year. But it’s just as much about an enjoyable social event – let’s hope customers went away satisfied with their buys and that everyone who helped out had a pleasant morning – good to do business with you all!

Thanks to the tent team, Ray, Barbara and Jem, to David H for support and to all the Sales Team: David L, Nick and Janet, Flora, Helen, Carol A, Gill and Carol I – expertise and sales acumen in equal measure! Thanks also to the Café volunteers who kept us going with tea and coffee. And many thanks to Dan and Lizzie, Carol and Hilary and everyone who donated quality plants and seedlings to add to the mix – without them there’d be no Sale!
