Seedy Sunday

Seedy Sunday

How lucky were we to pick a day in the middle of an exceptionally hot February week for this year’s Seedy Sunday! Temperatures in the high teens and a cloudless blue sky meant that sun lotion rather than a winter coat was the order of the day for the sales team outside. Ruth, Flora and Gill did a brisk trade selling seeds, hazel coppiced sticks, bamboo canes and a range of tools including a solidly built lawnmower and a wheelbarrow. In the café Carol and Janet used their formidable powers of persuasion to register plotholders and children for this year’s Autumn Social Heaviest Pumpkin, Family Scarecrow and Tallest Sunflower competitions – no time like the present to get thinking about those winning entries! New and more established plotholders, young and old came along to enjoy the sun, the café and the chance to pick up some bargains. The combined total takings from sales and registration was a record breaking £176.75!

Thanks to the Café team volunteers who provided the usual quality of delicious home baked cakes and hot drinks. And huge thanks to everyone who helped out on the day and to the Seedy sorters beforehand!

Please consider sowing some extra seeds for this year’s Plant Sale – we sell what you grow and we don’t want to go down the route of buying in plants from garden centres to boost quantities. A tray of home or plot grown seedlings is all it takes! If you donate seedlings or plants to the Sale you’ll have priority buying time and get to pick the best of the bunch. The following always go down well and can sell out quickly: peas; beans; courgettes; squash; cucumbers; leeks; brassicas and quality tomato varieties. Flowers, fruit cuttings, herbs and salad varieties are always welcome.

If you know of a news story which you think might be of interest to plotholders please send an email to let us know:
